Insurance: Extra Risks Cover Changes

Some minor updates have been made to Extra Risks Cover. Please ensure you download the latest version of the Factsheet for your records.
To better reflect the way modern motor vehicles are designed, we’ve updated the wording of the ‘Exclusions’ section. The revised text is shown below (changes highlighted in bold).
Reference: Page 9 – Exclusions, Item 4
New wording:
Electronic mobile equipment of any description (including items such as laptop computers, mobile phones, tablets, etc.) left in any automobile:
a. unless items are securely locked out of sight;
b. and not while the vehicle is parked at your place of work, home or accommodation.
Previous wording:
Electronic mobile equipment of any description (including items such as laptop computers, mobile phones, PDA’s, GPS’s, MP3 players) left in any automobile unless securely locked out of sight in the boot of the car. Covering items in the main cabin (or rear of a station wagon) of an automobile does not qualify as being locked out of sight in a boot.
What this means for you
Previously, cover only applied if items were locked in the boot of a car. The new wording recognises that many modern vehicles no longer have a separate boot. Now, cover applies as long as items are securely locked out of sight – but not if the vehicle is parked at your home, workplace or accommodation.
CHANGES TO CONTRIBUTION RATES
We’ve also updated the contribution rate for trailers under Extra Risks Cover.
Reference: Page 10 – How much does Extra Risks Cover cost?
New contribution rate (Specific – Trailers):
$60 + 1.5% per annum
Example: $135
Previous contribution rate (Specific – Trailers):
$50 + 1.3% per annum
Example: $115
What this means for you
If you’ve listed a trailer under Extra Risks Cover, the cost has increased. Please review the updated rates and examples to understand how this may apply to your circumstances.
PRO TIP!
Make sure to check that the replacement value listed for your trailer is enough to cover what it would cost to replace today! In the event of a claim, if it is under-insured you’ll be out of pocket.
